Yorkshire Mixture is the signature product of Maxons who are a traditional Yorkshire company. A mixture of fruit and mint flavoured boiled sweets, made to the original recipes and a favourite in Yorkshire and around the country.

It is thought that the history of Yorkshire Mixture dates back to the early 1800s and the Industrial Cities of the North of England. Street Vendors went from Factory to Factory selling sweets to workers in warm and dry conditions and would buy whatever ends of production (what we may call "seconds" today) were available from the previous day’s production at the local sweet factory. These would be cheap to buy and give a mixture of flavours and shapes to sell to the factory workers. This mixture became more popular throughout the 1800s and the shops would request it to sell themselves.

As industrialisation and mechanisation continued both in agriculture and industry the movement of people increased, both into and out of cities and counties this simple mixture of sweets had grown in popularity in the industrial cities of Yorkshire became known as Yorkshire Mixture when it was spoken about outside of the County.

Most Boiled Sweet Manufacturers would have their own Yorkshire Mixture mix as it would depend on what their specialities would have been and what may have been made that day. Today Maxon's are one of only a handful that still exist and they keep to the traditions of Yorkshire Mixture. Although the mix always include Humbugs, Fruit Rock, Fish and Pear Drops you may also find some of what has been produced that day be it Pineapple Chunks or Strawberries & Creams no jar is exactly the same.
